The child protection organization Terre des hommes Hellas (Tdh) is pleased to announce the launch today of its project "DIGNIFY", another program for vulnerable families with children on the move living in the region of Attica, after a needs assessment carried out in the previous months. The intervention, which at this stage will last until the end of the summer, aims to meet the urgent living needs of those families who are no longer entitled to protection services either because their asylum application has been granted or because their application has been rejected or they have not yet been registered in the protection and reception system for asylum seekers. In this way, the organization seeks to relieve the most vulnerable families following the cessation of food aid in the camps that occurred after relevant ministerial decisions in October 2021; and to support families with recognized refugee status in their first steps towards integration. Our action will take the form of assistance to ensure the provision of essentials through coupons that will be distributed in a special area of the organization in the center of Athens, and that will be redeemed in a supermarket chain. Also, the action will offer psychosocial care services and referrals to third-party services.
Our organization applies strict criteria for selecting beneficiaries after referrals. According to its mission, it will prioritize families with children who have not yet secured a livelihood, single-parent families, pregnant women or women, and children with chronic health problems. Meetings with beneficiaries are by appointment following all protocols for the prevention of COVID19.
The DIGNIFY project is funded by the Swiss Solidarity Foundation.
